To create a lighting scheme for Camden Council this project was set as a competition by an event company called Innovision.

We wanted to reflect the cultural diversity of the borough of Camden. We took the principle of the important part individual voice plays within a crowd - as a powerful metaphor. The form of the complete strand makes the shape of a helix within this we have a metaphor of DNA; the idea being that it is the people who create the identity of the place.

We chose the location of Argyle Square in Kings Cross. The shape of the strand is the social shape of the residential square - connected silhouettes made up from photographs of the square's local school children. The lighting element is the existence of shadows. It is expected that the children will be able to recognize their shape as a shadow on the pavement.
